Are you looking for a puppy with a good breed or are you planning to start dog breeding? If your answer is yes to any of those questions, you must first look for a dog breeder to assure you that you’re getting the best puppy in town.  It’s always better to buy a puppy directly from the breeder than from the pet shop because you can be guaranteed that you are getting the right kind of dog that you want.  On the other hand, many people are already taking advantage of the demand for a high quality breed of dog that’s why many are starting to pose as legitimate breeders just to earn a lot of money.  If you happen to face this kind of dilemma, here are some of the tips that you can try to check if a dog breeder is legit.

The first thing that you have to look for when dealing with a dog breeder is the registration papers of the dog.  Every dog that has been properly bred must be registered so that one could know the lineage of the dog.  If the person claiming to be a breeder can’t present this document, you can already say right away that the person you’re dealing with is not even a breeder after all.

This paper is important because it is the only proof that you can use to say that your dog comes from a winning line of dogs.  What you can see on this paper are the registered names of the dogs and if the dog’s name has a red mark on it, it means that it’s a winning dog.  If the paper has a lot of red marks on it, it can only mean that the puppy that you has a great lineage which can tell you that you are dealing with a top dog.  If ever that someone who claims he is into dog breeding presented you with registration papers, don’t just take it right away if the breeder you’re dealing with is not known in the market. This is because you might just be taking a fake paper.  Thus, what you have to do is to have this verified first with the concerned authorities so that you can be assured that you have the original paper and that the dog is from a good breed and not from an illegitimate breeder.

Another sure way of knowing if a dog breeder is legit or not is by asking them for credentials.  If that person is known in dog breeding, he must be able to show his portfolio of credentials, and one way of knowing it is by asking him a lot of questions related to his dog and to the kind of dog he’s breeding.  It only follows that the breeder you’re dealing with is a fraud if he can’t even answer the simplest questions about breeding.  In addition to that, you can also ask about his affiliation and it would be better if the breeder you’re dealing with is affiliated with an association of breeders so that you can really verify whether he is a true breeder or not.

In verifying the legitimacy of a dog breeder, you just have to be very careful and you also need to know some things about dog breeding so that you won’t get tricked.
