Nowadays, dog breeding is increasingly gaining popularity — not just among dog lovers, but also among people who want to earn for their livelihood.  In the past, it takes a lot of knowledge and patience — as well as a lot of investment — before one can become a dog breeder, but now, it doesn’t really require someone to be a professional before he or she can become a breeder.  If you are very keen in looking at the credentials of the breeder and if you really want to have a dog that comes from a reputable breeder, you have to know some tips on how you can find these people.

Looking for a reputable dog breeder can be misleading these days — most especially the fact that anyone can already claim that he or she is a dog breeder.  What most dog owners think is that once they have successfully made their female dog pregnant, and once it has successfully given birth to puppies, they can already call themselves breeders.  This is not the real essence of dog breeding is because it isn’t a one-time big-time deal.  Breeding dogs is a continuous and consistent process that should be able to have positive results most of the time.  Apparently, there are lots of what they call backyard breeders who are known to be underground breeders and there are also many of these backyard breeders who also give out fake registration papers just to pass themselves as legitimate breeders.  Now, how would you know whether you are dealing with known dog breeders?

First, if you are a serious dog breeder, you must always visit dog competitions and dog shows. You will find a wide array of competition dogs brought by their breeders in these shows. It logically follows that those dog breeders who have dogs with a long list of awards in them are reputable breeders with a high standard for credibility because the way they breed their dogs is manifested on how their dogs perform in these competitions.  Aside from looking for dog breeders who join these competitions, you can also look for a network or an organization of breeders that you can be a member of.  Usually, the dog owners and breeders are the ones that host these competitions, so this is really the perfect venue for you to be able to look for a network with reputable breeders.

If ever you have met someone who presents you with an impressive registration paper of a dog and if claims to be a reputable breeder, there is always a way to double check whether that dog breeder is telling the truth or not.  You can always go to legal organizations or governing agencies for dog breeders to determine whether a particular document or breeder is authentic or not.  By doing this, you can be assured that you are dealing with the right and the best person who can help you breed your dogs and who can give you winning dogs in the future.
