Should you breed your Dog?
The number one question that people should consider when breeding dogs is: “Am I ready to breed a dog?” Breeding takes a lot of effort, patience and most of all – responsibility. Responsible breeders reflect every aspect before carrying on. There are millions of strays out there; few are being saved by animal rescues and the rest are to be destroyed. However, if you a have a good and positive reason for breeding your dog, then it would be alright to proceed. But, if your plans of breeding the dogs went astray, would you like to keep all the puppies, plus do some dog grooming and dog bathing? Make every decision with much care and consideration. Try searching the Internet for related articles or ask your local vet for more things that you aren’t sure of. Here is a short list of reasons why people opted to breed their dogs.
Most people would breed for money. If you have the same reason, please bear in mind that your buyers will not always provide a suitable home for your pups. Therefore, there is a big chance that your puppy can now be sleeping in some cold, dark and damp place. If you must breed for money, then try promoting a particular breed. Prospective buyers will knock at your residence and ask for the puppy. Try interviewing the buyer if he is a real dog enthusiast. These animal lovers take a great deal of dog grooming. Some customers are also quite meticulous with dog breeds. If your pups are of ill-health, you won’t be making moolah out of it. If you need to breed for money, you first have to take care of the puppies and their parents. This involves a lot of time and money to provide the dog with proper care that could cost much than expected. Dog grooming and dog bathing items are costly nowadays. Frequent check-ups could also drain your money. So, do you have to be rich to breed dogs? No. You just have to be responsible and dedicated.
You also have to think twice if you simply breed the dogs just to have those “sweet, cuddly” puppies around your kid or baby cousins, nieces or nephews. Wake up. Those puppies will grow so quickly and may not look so cuddly any longer. What are you going to do? If you neglect them, they will die or will run away and become strays. Remember, dogs have feelings as well.
Dogs are also no bred to be tested or experimented on. That’s sheer cruelty! That’s not a good reason to breed dogs. Even in the film industry, during the rolling of credits, they all have that “No animals were harmed in the making of this film…” Why? Animals should be treated with care. Dogs are to be treated with care. Dogs have minds of their own. It may sound funny, but even they have their own life stories in their paws.
Breeding dogs are not that easy. If you should breed your dog, you must do it with clean intentions. After much planning and consideration, constant care must be given. The right amount of care given will make you and your dogs — or puppies — very, very happy.
